KANSAS CITY, MO (August 2, 2021)—A recently formed Elm City service organization of largely Post-9/11 military veterans achieved All-American status and is considered a top post in the largest combat veterans organization in America.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States New Haven Post 12150 (VFW New Haven) and Post Commander Charles M. Pickett were awarded the esteemed status of All-American for 2020-21 by outgoing VFW National Commander Hal Roesch at the 122nd VFW national convention in Kansas City, Missouri. The award recognizes authentic accomplishment in membership growth and VFW core programs in the congressionally-chartered veterans service organization of 1.5 million eligible veterans and military service members. Chartered in June 2015, VFW New Haven last achieved this honor in 2017 and was only one of two posts in Connecticut this year to earn All-American.
Pickett said, “Despite a global pandemic, the VFW New Haven was able to continue our mission of supporting our fellow veterans and serving America. Key factors in our success were the new member recruiting by Charter Member James Namnoum, the very popular Chaplain Birthday Card Program by post Chaplain Eric Kropiwnicki, and the expired members who rejoined our ranks during the dark winter of the pandemic.” Pickett also said veteran outreach including hundreds of emails, phone calls, letters, and social events such as a free coffee hour at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park and #VetEvents at the Trinity Bar & Restaurant in New Haven kept local veterans engaged during the pandemic.
VFW New Haven members conducted a number of charitable, patriotic, and educational projects last year including the Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy scholarship programs. Furthermore, they continued to support veteran-focused charities such as Connecticut’s Kick For Nick Foundation, the GWOT Memorial Foundation, and the VFW National Home For Children.
The VFW is largest, oldest, and most powerful war veterans service organization in America. Interested veterans can learn more about the local VFW New Haven post online (VFWNewHaven.org) or on Facebook (@VFWNewHaven).
