VFW New Haven Announces 2022-23 Youth & Education Awards

NEW HAVEN, CONN. (Nov. 20, 2022)–The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States New Haven Post 12150 Incorporated has announced their 2022-23 Youth & Education contest winners with both advancing to district competition.

High School Junior Lila J. Starkie of The Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center in New Haven, Connecticut won the post-level Voice of Democracy audio-essay contests on, “Why is the Veteran Important?” The Hamden resident now advances to the county-wide, VFW Department of Connecticut District 2 level where she competes for the opportunity to travel to Washington DC and a chance to win a $30,000 college scholarship.

Thomas F. McCormack of Wilton took first place in the post Patriot’s Pen essay contest on “My Pledge to Our Veterans.”
