NEW HAVEN, Conn. (July 16, 2020)—While subject to COVID-19 guidance, the 2020 New Haven Kick for Nick Night (#KickForNick), an annual charity fundraiser honoring the soccer dream of a fallen Connecticut soldier by distributing soccer balls to underprivileged children worldwide, will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Trinity Bar & Restaurant at 157 Orange St., in New Haven. The event, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, will feature raffles, a silent auction, drink specials, hors d’oeuvres, and entertainment. The suggested donation is a new or gently used soccer ball or $10.00 at the door, or donate directly at https://kickfornick.org/donate/.

“We recognize the challenges of holding a traditional charity fundraiser during a pandemic,” Charles M. Pickett, event organizer said, “however, as military veterans we can creatively seek ways to adapt and overcome and keep the decade-old tradition and a soldier’s dream alive.”

The Kick for Nick Foundation (kickfornick.org) was founded to honor the memory and dream of Wilton, CT native, soccer standout, and U.S. Army soldier PFC Nicholas A. Madaras. The Gold Star family-run charity has collected and distributed more than 55,251 soccer balls to underprivileged children in 53 countries worldwide. The foundation is a registered public charity in Connecticut (CHR.0052019) and an IRS Code 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Now in its 10th year, organizers from the VFW New Haven Post 12150, the American Legion New Haven Post 210, and the Kick for Nick Foundation, welcome back longtime supporters including the Southern Connecticut State University Women’s Soccer Team, the veterans of the Peter P. Monaco Jr. Detachment 40 of the Marine Corps League in Glastonbury, and embrace new and revitalized support from the Knights of St. Patrick, the American Outlaws, the Liverpool Supporters Club of New Haven, and the Trinity Bar & Restaurant.
