DESTRUCTIVE FIRE DOESN’T DIM 2017 KICK FOR NICK FUNDRAISER

New Haven community bands together to back annual event

NEW HAVEN, CONN. (OCT. 9, 2017)—Despite a destructive fire that threatened the event, New Haven organizations and individuals have stepped-up their support for a celebrated local fundraiser which honors the soccer dream of a fallen Connecticut soldier.

The 2017 New Haven Kick for Nick Night (#kickfornick) will be held on October 20 from 5:00 to 10 p.m., but moved to The Regal Beagle (422 State Street). A two-alarm fire above the Trinity Bar & Restaurant shuttered the longtime event sponsor and popular downtown pub; however, Regal Beagle owner Michael Longley rose to the occasion, offering to sponsor the fundraiser at his neighborhood bar & restaurant.

Additionally, the Coach Adam Cohen and the Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer program will host a soccer ball collection during their Oct. 14, 1 p.m. match against Bentley, and the Military Veterans of the University of New Haven President Candice Gagnon has challenged her team to exceed last year’s donations.

Musical guest Joe LaDore will provide entertainment for the evening as well as the New Haven County Firefighters Emerald Society. There will be drinks specials and hors d’oeuvres served and all proceeds from the raffles and silent auction go to the Connecticut-based, Gold Star family run public charity, The Kick for Nick Foundation. Organizers request the donation of a new or used soccer ball or $15.00 at the door. Additional details, including an online donation form, can be found on the event page (http://kickfornick.eventbrite.com).
