Founded in 1899, The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members.
We provide social and recreational activities for veterans including our #VetEvents, #VetHikes, boat trips, military dinners, Elm City Party Bike Veteran tours, free yoga, Veterans Day FREE SOS Breakfast and the New Haven Veterans Night charity fundraiser.
Since we chartered on June 11, 2015, we’ve raised and donated more than $50,000, to fellow veterans and their families, organized Buddy Poppy drives and hospital visits, walked 22K in the MLC DET 40 Hike to Remember annually, donated to the VFW National Home for Children, and supported the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation.
We sponsor and participate in community and patriotic activities such as the Homeless Point-In-Time Count, town monument beautification, military ceremonies, scholarship contests, flag-retirement ceremonies, and marching in the Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
We have successfully connected with hundreds of military veterans in the Greater New Haven region and was honored as a 2017, 2021 and 2023 All-American Post–putting it in the top echelon of posts worldwide.
