PICKETT ANNOUNCES RUN FOR VFW CONNECTICUT JR. VICE COMMANDER
NEW HAVEN, CONN. (JAN. 12, 2023)—Charles M. “Charlie” Pickett announced he is seeking the nomination to be the 2023-2024 Junior Vice Commander of the Department of Connecticut, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Pickett served in the United States Army from 2007 to 2011 with the 814th Engineer Company (Multi-Role Bridge Company) and the Connecticut Army National Guard 250th Engineer Company (MRBC) from 2011 to 2014, earning his VFW eligibility by serving in Iraq from 2007 to 2008, and Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011. In recognition of his service, he recieved the Combat Action Badge, three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and numerous other medals and ribbons.
He joined the VFW in 2008 at Post 3106 in Leesville, Louisiana and subsequently was a member of Post 189 in New London, Connecticut. In 2015, Pickett was lead organizer and founding member of Post 12150 in New Haven, Connecticut—twice leading the post to All-American status in 2017 and 2021 as a Gold Legacy Life member. He has served in elected and appointed positions at the Post, District, and Department Levels, including a four-year term as Adjutant / Commander of District 2 Department of Connecticut.
Pickett is an English teacher at the The Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center in New Haven, Connecticut. He recieved his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Connecticut in 1991 and was granted a Master of Science degree in English from Southern Connecticut State University in 2014.
He is also the lead organizer, founding member, and a Paid Up For Life member of American Legion Post 210 in New Haven, Connecticut. He is a member of the Knights of St. Patrick, life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and life member of the VFW National Home for Children.
He currently resides in New Haven, Connecticut.
