“New Generation” VFW Post Seeks Unit Distinction Award
NEW HAVEN, CONN (November 7, 2016)—In only their second year of existence, The Veterans of Foreign Wars New Haven Post 12150 has launched a bold, six-month initiative to be distinguished as a top-tier post in the oldest major veterans organization in America.
Based on a number of charity, program, and membership criteria, the VFW All-American Leadership Program recognizes the top five percent of VFW posts worldwide. VFW New Haven Commander Charles M. Pickett said, “Some people may see our All-American initiative as audacious for a second-year-post. However, our membership of mostly Post-9/11 combat veterans wants to show what a ‘new generation’ VFW post can accomplish.”
To achieve this milestone, the VFW New Haven post must offer a number of state and national VFW programs including the Voice of Democracy youth scholarship contests. Additionally, the post must excel in membership recruiting and retention. Pickett said, “we are on track to grow our fledgling post by 150 percent by next Memorial Day, but we definitely need the continued support of the greater Elm City community to spread the word to senior, student, established, and transitioning veterans. Any help from posting a flyer, sharing our Facebook page, or telling your veteran friend or relative about the VFW New Haven is appreciated.”
The VFW New Haven Post 12150 meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:10 p.m. at the Knights of St. Patrick (1533 State Street, New Haven, CT 06513). To join, a veteran must have served honorably, served in a foreign war, and be a U.S. citizen.
